Tapout XT Fitness Program ? Product Review : The Fight Nerd

Remember Tae Bo? That brief time period where B-level martial arts actor Billy Blanks suddenly became a big deal as Americans across the nation punched and kicked to the sound of up-temp dance music that was not fit for a night club? Yeah, I thought I forgot about that too. With MMA becoming more mainstream and becoming a popular method of exercise for people uninterested in fighting, many DVD workouts have popped up to fill the gaping void that Billy Blanks left behind.

Today, we take a look at one of these, the TapouT XT Fitness Program! The people behind those shirts that you see everywhere have jumped into the home-exercise racket, and it?s about time. How does this exercise series stack up compared to others, and will it cut the fat (like Ron Popeil?s Showtime Rotisserie), or just waste your time and money?

Hit the jump for the full review!

The TapouT XT Fitness Program is a complete package, including fifteen DVD?s, meal plan, a few gifts in the form of training equipment, and a schedule to keep you on your toes, literally. Taught by trainer Mike Karpenko, who is backed up by a bevy of well-known MMA fighters who train with you, this systems offers a total body workout that is diverse as it is sweat-inducing. It uses the principle of ?RIPP?, which stands for Rapid-Fire, Interval, Precision, and Power. The principle of RIPP is based on explosive bursts of strike and kick combinations combined with targeted resistance and power training that will fire your metabolism, build lean sexy muscle and can supposedly burn up to 1,200 calories per workout. My reaction to that:

Aside from the insane amount of DVD?s, this set also includes a resistance band, a towel, a headband, a TapouT sticker, a 60-page food plan booklet, and a calendar to help give you a proper workout routine. The resistance band is not the greatest of bands, but if you are a beginner to exercise, it?s fine ? anyone who is more physically fit will probably need to be a stronger resistance band, but like I said, for a novice it will get the job done. The towel is relatively light and features the TapouT logo on it, as does the headband which is made out of rubber.

The food plan and nutritional guide contains a 20-day meal plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The recipes are quick and easy yet diverse enough that you will not go hungry on this regimen, with recipes like lemon asparagus pasta, Chinese chicken salad, omelettes, and plenty of variations on grilled chicken and fish. The guide also includes a food log and notes section for you to record your dietary needs, and also your mood as you go along, plus plenty of other tips and positive info to keep you motivated and involved in the diet.

So far, so good, but now let?s get down to the meat of this program ? the DVD?s! The seven DVD?s in here actually include 15 workouts. Fifteen! The workouts are Ultimate Abs XT, legs & back, ripped conditioning, cardio XT, Muay Thai, Competition core, Sprawl & Brawl, Buns & Guns XT (have you seen the letters X and T enough yet?), Cross core combat, Yoga XT, Plyo XT, Strength & force upper, and strike training. The workouts have the ability to turn music on and off when you first play it, which is actually a neat little extra that I liked, since sometimes you might not want to hear it.

UFC and Strikeforce fighters like Jon Jones, Benson Henderson, Ryan Bader, Donald Cerrone, Miesha Tate, and a ton more which you can see at this list here work out along with you in these various workouts, which is great to see. I have seen other workout DVD?s where even the main trainer can not do it (cough, Tae Bo, cough), but it is very inspirational seeing these recognizable combatants sweating along with you from start to finish.

The workouts will kick your butt, that is for sure, and do a good job of keeping things exciting and different for you as you go through the routines, which all have varying durations, but are at least 20 minutes long a piece and up. Karpenko is a fine instructor and breaks things down very easily for you to follow, and is motivating to listen to. I have used other tapes before where I need to pause or rewind to see how something is done, but Karpenko keeps the flow going while explaining an exercise, meaning you save time and effort since you don?t need to pause the workout and inadvertently take a break that you should not (gotta? keep those calories burning).

What more can I say about the workouts, other than they made me want to puke in the best way possible! The workout routines are good for all levels of athlete, whether you are a casual person or looking for a serious system to get you in shape. Will it teach you how to fight? No, not really, but it will get you fighting fit and ready to train some MMA at a proper gym.

Overall, I was very happy with this workout series and what it had to offer. I can see myself and others getting some serious use out of this set, especially with how easily it spells everything out for you to keep up with it on a real schedule. Perfect for all levels, the TapouT XT Fitness Program will ?RIPP? you into shape in no time, and you will feel the results almost immediately. You can order this from the official TapouT XT site for three easy payments of $39.99, plus shipping and handling, and is definitely worth it. Do note that their site is the only official distributor of this, so you must go through them if you want to pick it up. I highly recommend this product for anyone who wants to get into shape out of the comfort of their home, so pick it up today and get that six-pack you have yearned for!
